We will also be asking for votes for Players’ Player of the Year in each age group so please ask them to give this some thought beforehand.
The new 12s will have their first session. This will give us an idea of the numbers we have available and whether we need to put Plan B into operation to get us over this hump. Plan B will be a joint team of Under 12s from us and Marsh Hornets who find themselves in a similar situation. The recent recruitment initiatives will hopefully boost our numbers but please spread the word and point people to our excellent website (especially those with kids moving into Year 6 this new term)
PRESENTATION NIGHT SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 12TH
SPONSORED BY COLONY GIFT CORPORATION & FURNESS WATCH AND JEWELLERY, CAVENDISH STREET BARROW.
Colony have kindly offered to cover the costs of trophies and medals for the evening (thanks Yvonne) so we owe a big thank you to them and to Mike Armstead for their support. I have extended an invitation to them to attend and I’m convinced that once they see what a brilliant group of kids we have we can look forward to a healthy relationship in the future. Please support them in return if you can. Furness Watch & Jewellery have agreed to supply us with trophies and medals at cost so a big thank you to them and again, please support them in return if you can.
I now have numbers for almost everyone so if it’s going to differ dramatically please let me know. The evening starts at 7pm with a disco before pie & peas and then the presentations. Please pay on the night for your tickets (£5 adult, £3 kid and free for players) and with 140 confirming it promises to be a great night to recognise the kids’ achievements this season. There is still plenty of room so if any extras are required please let me know and make the well deserved applause even louder!
Training
Training resumes on September 4th with Micro, 8s, 10s and 12s being welcomed back after the summer break. Votes for Player’s Player of the Year will be taken on the night so please bring a slip with your child’s nomination on. You can also return your kit on the night (see note below)
Coach Education
The club has four volunteers booked on to the next RFL Level 1 UKCC qualification course. On completion this will take us to 5 qualified Level 1 coaches and 1 qualified Level 2 coach and demonstrates how seriously we take our child welfare policies and our duty of care to the kids. There is a possibility of another place available and if anyone’s interested please get in touch as soon as possible.
LEVEL 1 COURSE 4th & 18th October 2009 at Hawcoat Park, 9.00am – 5.00pm both days. £360 NON REFUNDABLE NOW PAID

Presentation Night
The RFL have recently appointed a Talent Coach in Cumbria, Carl Harrison. I have invited Carl and his wife Amy to attend our presentation night and he has accepted. This will be an opportunity to discuss your child’s development with someone from outside of the club and also for Carl to see how we do things at our newly established club. Please give him a warm welcome.
Code Switch
The 8s and 10s for 2010 will now switch codes and will become Union players overnight from September until February. Please see the latest update on the website for current fixtures. Switching codes serves several purposes.
•It keeps the teams together over the quiet winter period whilst providing some competitive games over what is the league close season at these age groups.
•The fundamentals of the games are the same and each code brings skills to the other that we can use going forward.
•Under 8s play tag and this will ease in the new players to the 8s before contact League games in early 2010.
•The arranged fixtures are all local and provide the obvious “social” opportunities.
HPRUFC A Team
The Rugby Union A team are entered in the Miller Homes 5 League this season and are still actively recruiting. Petch and myself currently make up the RL compliment but from the talent on display at the recent Dad’s game I know we have more in reserve! Training takes place at the club on Monday and Wednesday at 630 until 8pm if you fancy a game?
