Pre Match Review - 7th March 2010
This week’s openers against Roose will tell us where we are as a club in terms of development.
Coaching is easier when it’s done reflectively and although we know we are healthy in every department we’ve yet to pit our teams against any opposition in a real game of rugby league since the numerous changes happened last July.
Roose always are a well organised bunch and are never the easiest teams to play against.
What we will be looking for from the 8s is to challenge themselves.
To maybe run that little bit further or to commit to that tackle or even to turn and pass the ball.
It’s easy to get caught up in the game but it takes a lot to enter the field of play for the first time and to see the expectant faces of parents along the touchlines.
From the 10s I’d like to think we have grown enough to begin to become less reliant on the coach on the pitch and to start to develop game sense and make decisions accordingly themselves.
Rugby League is a game of mutual respect because the parents on the opposite side of the pitch are going through the same emotions as you are.
This is where we differ fundamentally from football, results are secondary and wins are never an expected outcome and the referee is always “Sir”.
As long as the kids come off muddy and smiling and knowing they’ve challenged themselves we as coaches will be happy and they will be better people as a result of it.
Here’s to the 2010 Season and whatever it brings! Good Luck.
