This week we entertain Askam who have historically always had some good rugby playing teams at 8s and 10s. One of Askam's characteristics is their ability to keep the ball alive. The 8s we've faced over the last few years have had some enviable passing skills and today will be no different. The sea air makes 'em grow big in Askam so we must be at our best in defence if we are to give a good account of ourselves. The games today see debuts for Spencer and Adam in the 8s and we wish them the best of luck. We'll be telling them to play the simple way -
1. DON'T DROP THE BALL
2. DON'T RUN BACKWARDS
3. DON'T LET ANYONE PAST
that's all we're asking for at the moment and had you told me back in November that we'd be gelling as a team this early I'd have been very happy. As spectators you will see the ball start to move around more, the tackles become more "enthusiastic", the runs become straighter and the boys generally becoming more aware of their own abilities. We encourage self belief and this shows with the weekly improvements we've had since we started. The boys will only benefit from their new found hobby!
