Under 8's
This is my first match report so bare with me! ( I made the mistake of asking Mike to help which has resulted in him walking off in a huff ) Keith is writing the under 10's report which is a good job because my scoring today of 3 tries and 2 kicks shows my lack of knowledge of the 10's rules.
Today was a windy away fixture which saw Harvey Coops a bit disappointed that Mark wasn't driving the happy bus to Roose.
We forgot the golden rule defence wins games! which resulted in a 10-7 defeat. However, we did do some good strong runs with some passing into an excellent tackling team which resulted in a total of 7 tries: Spencer (2) Ethan (2) LJ (3)
It seemed that the teams heads went down in the second half despite the usual very enthusiastic encouragement from the parents on the touch line, we need to remember to keep them up as we were still very much in it to win it.
The kids looked like a proper outfit this week in their matching kits unlike last week at Millom where we looked like a bunch of rag a muffins. The support again from all the parents makes for a good Sunday morning outing and I look forward to Friday where we can make use of our discount cards in the bar !!!!!

Under 10's
Sorry for the delay in sending this, but here is my attempt at a match report for the Under 10s match at Roose yesterday.
In windy conditions the Under 10s took the field in confident mood against a Roose side who they had "nilled" on the opening day of the season.
Hawcoat's defence was again excellent but so too was that of the Roose side - with the result being a really hard match with defences on top throughout.
Harvey (Petch) broke the deadlock when he scooted over from dummy half in "Andy Ellis" style and then converted his own touchdown to give Storm a 6-0 lead. I have to admit to missing his celebratory dance (though he assures me he did one!!).
It was nip and tuck again for the next few minutes until Wazza launched himself on (yet another) barnstorming run, scattering defenders left right and centre, before showing great skill to off load to Archie (in the perfect supporting position) who raced over in the corner. Archie failed to convert but his seide went into the half-time break 10-0 ahead.
The opening ten minutes of the second half saw Roose exert a lot of pressure on the Storm line before they eventually gained their reward to cut the deficit to 10-6. It was game on and the Storm defence had to be at their best to maintain their lead.
On the back of a fine tackling stint Storm then got on top again and Matty made the game safe when he cut through the Roose side in typical fashion from 30 yards out to touchdown and then convert the try to make it 16-10 at full time.
This was a fine all round display by Storm and a very entertaining match to watch, played out by two very evenly matches and committed sides, with Roose playing their part to the full.
Personally, I was very impressed by everyones defence but particularly the Year 4 kids who are now beginning to find their feet at this level and are tackling like demons.
Next week sees Walney visit Hawcoat Park and the team will need to be at their very best if they are to win against them.
Cheers,
Keith
PS: I have deliberately only mentioned the scorers and not picked out any individuals for special mention as I felt all the boys (and Jess of course) played their part in a great team performance.

Many many thanks to the guest summarisers from the Roose game. Much as I was looking forward to my weekend away I have to admit that I missed the usual Sunday morning bottle filling and early dart with my boots. It’s great that people will just pick up the baton to keep these little things going and that the positive feedback continues.
Friday sees us welcome Walney who have asked (and I agreed) to play the following games. Under 7s at 5pm until 530pm followed by the older kids in the 8s group from 530pm until 6pm. This will give all the 8s an opportunity for some game time but we’re very dependent on everyone’s availability to allow us to play both games so please try and get to the top pitch in time for a 5pm kick off. Peter did such a good job at Millom he’s been promoted (not that he knows it yet) to full time 7s and 8s coach (assuming that was a grin and not a grimace). I’ll be reffing the youngsters games so Pete will be as busy as he was at Millom. All games will be played on the top pitch as our section can read the keep off the grass signs on the bottom pitch.
The 10s will then face the sternest opposition we’ve had this year for a second time and will need to be at their defensive best if they are to demonstrate how far they’ve come since the bleary eyed stuttering starts of early March. Prepare for fireworks as we take on an extremely good Walney side. If the 10s can get there early to shout on the little squids I know it will help.
Following the games we’ve asked Walney to stay and enjoy some of our famous post match hospitality in the bar and as Jai mentioned we should all have our discount cards handy for a good battering! We will be putting on some food for our parents and visitors that I’m assuming will be a BBQ weather permitting or a buffet if it’s raining. I’ll keep you posted when someone volunteers to help Mrs. B.
Mr. & Mrs. Jessiman (Duddon Tyres) have made a superb offer to sponsor the new 12s kit for the 2010 season so the issues around kits should hopefully all be addressed now. Please try and repay this kind help by visiting them for your tyres in future. Thanks to each and every one of you who have made such kind gestures lately both financial and of assistance, it is really appreciated and helps make us the close knit club that we are.
See you Friday.
