A beautiful day and two great spectacles made the trip for our many supporters well worth it. Can I just personally thank the parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles etc. for their impeccable behaviour along the touchline. We really do set the standard for respectful spectating and to see you all clapping a try regardless of which team scored it is a fantastic thing to watch. Our "go out and enjoy it" approach to games is only helped by your approach.

BARROW ISLAND 12 vs HAWCOAT STORM 2 (without counting conversions)
There's a guy stands in front of the play the ball called a marker.
Those mums and dads who stay for both games will notice that this is one of the few differences between the age groups.
Barrow Island played some excellent attacking rugby and passed the ball about with confidence. When it was our turn to attack the marker stopped us and this is what limited us to the two tries we scored. Two excellent tries against a far superior and vastly more experienced team. The boys deserve credit for managing to put 10 points on the board but most importantly for never giving up until the final whistle. We explained to them at training that DEFENSE WINS GAMES and also told them what would happen if we didn't take the defensive drills we did to today's game. That sort of came true! There are many, many positives that we can take from the game and we can also now work to address some of the issues that became apparent today against the best team we're likely to face all season. Well done boys, you're a credit to yourselves and you won't be the new boys for long!

HAWCOAT STORM 10 vs BARROW ISLAND 12
An excellent game was had by all and the tone was set early with the boys rolling around laughing during the warm up. The scoreline is testament to the team spirit we've developed and the hard work we've put in at training. Barrow Island are the team we need to look to for where we want to be. They play exciting passing rugby and have the physical size to dominate any opponents (ask Adam.) Where we maybe lacked in size we more than made up for in effort, determination and sheer bravery for some of our little guys. We will have shocked them today with a fantastic 10 tries scored and this demonstrated to us that we can score against anyone. What it also demonstrated unfortunately is that we are very, very leaky and although we scored 10 we let 12 in. Anyone remember the DEFENSE WINS GAMES bit? Just imagine the scenario where we have an unbeatable defense because we all move up together and we all put our shoulder in first and we all stay in our lanes and the boys we tackle know they've been tackled - and then we bang 10 tries in. This is where we'll be soon and this is where we'll be concentrating our efforts at training over the coming weeks. A special mention to Adam and Macca who were dwarfed by their opponents today but still took to the pitch without hesitation - well done boys! We've got the beginnings of a great little team and after today I don't believe we'll be taken as "that new team" by any of our opponents.
WALNEY AT HOME NEXT WEEK.
