Post Match Review - 28th March 2010

Two fantastic games of rugby on a beautiful morning in the sun followed by hours of soaking kits to remove the iron ore stains from Dalton's famous red mud were the order of the day this week. Dalton's 8s proved too big for us yesterday especially with their Ulverston contingent but the signs are all encouraging for us despite the 10-5 loss. LJ continues to set the standard in defence for both the 8s and a lot of the 10s with text book tackle after text book tackle regardless of the size of opponent. Ethan and Spencer had their usual solid games in attack and both found themselves on the score sheet again along with Steph and Adam who opened their accounts in some style. A debut appearance from Bob and improvements again from all of our younger players meant the time spent on a Friday concentrating on running straight and retaining possession of the ball is all paying off. Spencer's try came from an offload in the tackle from Sprinkler which demonstrates how far we've come this year.

The 10s provided us with a nail biting game that they eventually came out of as winners 6-7. We explained to them that they were better than the 11 they conceded against Millom and asked them to shut us up by once again working together and not being the nice boys they are Monday to Saturday (well most of them!) The defence was a marked improvement from the disjointed and disinterested display at Millom. They moved up together and rode out set after set on their own line only to be beaten once by an excellent Dalton passing move which is a great return. We played simple rugby and got the rewards by doing the defensive bit right. From our own half we drove the ball, no frills style, using our forwards to set a platform for our backs to move the ball wide and score. 6 of the 7 tries came from this type of play and the other was from an individual run that Olly has been working up to for the last 12 months. A well deserved debut try and one he'll remember for a while I'm sure.

Barrow play Castleford this Sunday so the Marsh Hornets home game will possibly be played on Friday night instead of training as they have a bus load going to the game. Until this is confirmed can I ask that the kids come to training in their playing kits anyway so we're ready. I'll confirm as soon as I know.

Cheers
