For those who have had a kid in the 8s for more than a season, Sunday’s game would have been the norm. You never really know what you’re going to get on a Sunday morning and we’ve been trying to bring some sort of order back over the last couple of weeks to a team that was becoming more reliant on individuals than working together. Rugby League is not a glamorous game and sometimes teams must grind out results by doing the straight no nonsense running and retaining possession of the ball. We did this on Sunday against an extremely good and extremely big Dalton side and the final score of 5-8 was an extremely respectable one and reflected the way the kids played. We stuttered a little where we were thinking about where we were stood and what we should be doing and we perhaps lost a little bit of “oomph” because of this but we were organised, we remained in our positions, we were unrecognisable at the play the ball from the bunch of seagulls we had a fortnight ago, we all ran onto the ball and we all did our bit of passing. We can now build on this and reintroduce some determined running amongst the glimpses of flair and the organised team we saw on the pitch against Dalton. Tries for Ethan (4) and a wonderful scoot (where the acting half back runs with the ball on the last play of the 6) from Coops Jnr (1) gave us our 5 but everyone had a hand in the tries we scored in a cracking team performance. Well done everyone.
