Post Match Review - 23rd May 2010
If you thought you were getting stats galore today – forget it! Jai handed me three sheets of scribbles and I’ll decipher it when my forehead cools down a bit (thanks Jai). A brilliant day in the sun for all our kids and parents was the order of the day at a very well organized event. From what I saw of the other games the feel was the same for all our games, loads of positives and loads of game time for everyone.
It’s a pity that we couldn’t field two 11s but those who took to the pitch against what was universally older, bigger and more experienced opposition did themselves proud. The sneak preview you had today was what you can expect every Sunday from September and the experience will stand you in good stead. Teams can’t play a full Year 6 squad every week so the results are no reflection of where anyone is. Rest assured boys, you’re right where we want you to be (growing your game at your own pace and starting to turn in consistent performances regardless of opposition. You’re also moulding yourselves into the positions you’ll be playing in and most importantly celebrating your team mates achievements alongside your own……..Singo! Singo! Singo!
The 8s looked like a rag tag bunch but their performances were four star. To see Peter crossing the pitch like a Cheshire Cat was enough of a match summary or me and the squids turned in another two excellent performances to a man. To see that group of youngsters doing what the 9s did last season and the 11s did the season before was excellent. We have some “old heads” in the squad already and these players are setting the standard for their team mates.
The 9s performed extremely well as I had assumed they would be playing 8s rules (no markers / no kicks.) We changed this quickly and the youngsters adjusted very well to the extra 10s rules. We tackled well as a team and individually. We trundled up the middle and did all the unglamorous stuff and we passed the ball about where we could. If that’s what I have to work with next season I’m a happy man.
We do have 30 playing strips and another 20 new kits for the 12s. 21 players shouldn’t have been too hard to kit out and we’ll have to think about this if we play three teams again. If your child can’t play for any reason we could really do with their kits at training on Friday. Thanks again to everyone for getting their today, I hope you all enjoyed it. The Love Bus is safely back at the club until next year!
I have asked Roose if we can play our weekend games this Friday evening to accommodate the Barrow game on Saturday. I’ll keep you posted.
