UNDER 10S RESULT
HAWCOAT STORM WON THE FIRST HALF THEN WENT TO SLEEP
An extremely encouraging start from the 10s led me (and most of the watching Mums and Dads by the sound of it) to think that we were going to run in a cricket score this morning. Two early tries from Matty had us comfortably in the driving seat and everything was looking good. Ultimately our defence still needs some work and although we ran straight and hard, passed the ball around and supported the runner we had weak links in our defensive line and this cost us the game. We need to move off the line AS SOON AS THE ACTING HALF BACK MOVES TO EITHER SIDE OF THE PLAY THE BALL OR PASSES THE BALL. We need to act as a cohesive unit in defence and no matter how good some of us are individually, one player cannot stop an attacking run. The confidence to run and pass is a brilliant attribute at this early stage but DEFENCE WINS GAMES and we must all bring our A game next week against Barrow Island as the Hawcoat Storm defence will face its toughest test yet by far. Bring your shoulder pads to training!
UNDER 8S RESULT
HAWCOAT STORM 6 MORE THAN THEY DID
I was so proud of each and every one of the 8s players today. Two debutants Adam and Spencer gave us the luxury of a substitute and the return of Archie and Macca will see us at full strength for next week's trip to Ostley Bank. As a team our defensive play was outstanding. The ones we got they remembered and the ones we missed were picked up by the next man. We even started passing today and scored more than one of our tries as a result of keeping the ball alive. Four tries a piece for Jake and Lewis and Harvey going agonizingly close again meant that we could have become complacent but everyone on the field without exception defended brilliantly and thwarted attack after attack. Games like today's will add to the growing confidence in the team and will result in straighter runs and less time spent in touch. When we play the modified 8s game the worst scenario is to get put into touch. We lose possession and position and the other team gain positional advantage. Stay on the island or the crocodiles will get you!
Another extremely succesful day in the kitchen with the Askam mafia wiping out the bacon supplies before I managed to get one - again! Thanks gain to everyone who helped out. From the pitch I get a real sense of team developing amongst the parents now and think this is very healthy. The spring BBQ is only a matter of weeks away and it just needs some bodies to organise it. Please feel free to get in touch if you fancy it.
