Post Match Review - 21st June 2009
I was so chuffed for the 10s players, coaches and parents I’m going to write about them first this week!
UNDER 10S v BARROW ISLAND LOST 0-5
We had a “chat” on Friday night about all the things I had mentioned the previous week.
They were asked to play their game but to play it with some intensity and controlled aggression within the rules of the game.
We almost managed it with one minor indiscretion!
The boys played a superior team with the tenacity and determination that has been missing since the season started.
They ran with angry faces and they tackled as a team with venom in what turned out to be a crunching affair.
We turned the corner yesterday despite the final score.
To hold Barrow Island to 2-0 at half time was excellent, to maintain that throughout the second half and concede only 3 more tries was a fantastic result and is testament to the way the 10s approached the game – just as they were asked to.
If we can approach our remaining games with this mind set we’ll get the results we deserve.
An excellent display from everyone, well done all.
A big thanks also to the 8s parents who stayed to cheer the 10s on.
UNDER 8S v BARROW ISLAND LOST 1-6
Had the 8s come out of the blocks with the same intensity as the 10s we would have been looking at a different result.
After taking the first 15 minutes to wake up and stop playing as individuals we had a drink and performed significantly better in the second half.
Again, despite the superior opposition we kept the players quiet who we needed to and we never took a backward step after the half time break.
An injured Spencer, LJ and Archie meant a weakened side but Big Adam, Big Macca and Pos Jnr stepped up to the mark with great displays and filled their shoes admirably.
The 5 try gap represents the first half performance. With just 5 games remaining of the normal season we need to snap out of this slow start approach as we’re making it hard for ourselves.
Early night and big breakfast!
CATERING
We were a little light on volunteers from the 10s yesterday which meant some of the 8s parents missed the start of their children’s games. Thanks to the people who helped but we need to spread the jobs a little thinner to prevent this happening again and to give those “same old faces” a week off? We currently have just two remaining home fixtures against Dalton on 12th July (scheduled to be the Millom festival and now clashes with Barrow’s NR Cup Final appearance so doubtful at best) and the last game of the season on 27th July against Roose.
WIGAN
Despite numerous e mails, website articles, text messages, phone calls etc. I still have about a 50% uptake. I need numbers by lunchtime TODAY and money for these numbers by Friday at the very, very latest. I haven’t got time to chase this all week so if there are insufficient numbers to make a second coach feasible (as there are at this moment) I’ll have to cancel that and those who have paid will make up our party which would be a real shame.
