The hooped all stars of Bevan House against the blue meanies from the Griffin estate proved to be a much tastier encounter than anticipated.
Following a brief warm up the teams took to the field and played a ferocious twenty seconds of exciting rugby – after which the pace slowed dramatically due to the hot weather and foggy conditions and the altitude and the mud.
The ever agile Mr Nutter provided the thronging touchline crowd with a glimpse of his thrombosis tights as he skipped up and down the line like a spring chicken (ably assisted by Petch with some quality ball).
Dean set the standard for safety wear sporting some of the latest innovations in padding and protection and together with Macca Senior could easily have filmed a remake of Robocop.
A 5-3 victory for the hoops sets up the rematch (on a smaller pitch with more players) beautifully.
Thanks especially to our regular kitchen ladies who did so well with the pies etc. and who probably were rewarded with moans and groans and massage requests for the following two days!
Had I known there would be so many beautiful pairs of new boots on display I would have negotiated a deal with JJB but Macca’s size 13 EBay bargains had to be the highlight of the footwear show. At £1 or 50p each is it any wonder he scored in what is now known as The McCullough End (incorporating the Paul McCullough - Rugby God Car Park).
Moves are afoot to produce a limited edition range of exclusive “PMRG” Paul Mc Rugby God shirts in time for the presentation night in his honour. Mike “I’m not available” Foster managed to not be available whilst watching the whole game from under the tree in the corner? Mr Meadows managed to relive his youth through the filthy act of tea bagging that was beautifully delivered in the way only he can – please ask him for more details and those players that scored had the chance to relive their youth before their lungs reminded them that they were actually far too old to be even thinking about sprinting ever, ever again.
If it whetted the appetite we train on a Wednesday night from 630pm until 8pm and the season starts in September.
As a team building exercise and a good crack it served its purpose brilliantly.
It also gave the non-playing parents a glimpse of what their brave kids do every Sunday so thanks to all the players and excited spectators who made it possible.
Thanks to Eddie and the ground staff for preparing the pitch so well for us and a special thanks to Andy who not only scored but stayed behind in the bar to allow us to have the children in after the 9pm deadline and thanks to Nobby and the union section for allowing us to use their kits.
Thank You All!
Training will resume on September 4th.
Please return all playing kit and tracksuits etc. to me on or before the presentation night on September 12th to allow me to redistribute.
Please text me your presentation night ticket requirements - £5 adult, £3 kid, £0 players and confirm availability ASAP.
Please also nominate your 8s Supporter’s Player of the Year and 10s Supporter’s Player of the Year in this text.
Have a great break and I’ll see you in September for the Union season!
