ASKAM
Friday night was a rearranged game from the previous weekend and following an hour or so training/warm up the 8s took to the pitch (that was on the 2nd football pitch as the 1st XV pitch had just been seeded in case you were wondering). The 8s have become one of the most organised and disciplined teams in our league over the last month. We no longer clutter around the play the ball and we work our areas of the pitch well. This has resulted in some excellent rugby from all of the players because they now have the room to do it and also the confidence to wang it about a bit which is brilliant at such a young age. Getting the fundamentals right now will result in free ball playing regardless of position. Tries for Ethan 2, Spenner 2 and Adam 1 gave us a slim win over a very good Askam team who replied with three.
The 10s then took to what was a big pitch (and then made bigger by mutual consent.) They played the pitch, the opposition and the conditions very well and gave us glimpses of why we’re not too worried about the ability of those moving to 12s in September. Tries from Lew, Chazza, Will (2) and Matty (2) were matched with a dogged defence that only allowed two in response. The coaches input is becoming less and less and the boys are organising themselves well without constant prompting. Askam are a good side who have won more than they have lost this season. The margin tells us where we have got to from the disorganised bunch we once were. Well done everyone.
