For those that didn't believe my miraculous weather influencing powers I'll have an "I told you so moment" here now.................thank you!
Firstly the 10s summary. From what I saw of the last two minutes of the game I could have sworn it was 6 all. We were driving the ball in and we were all keen to take a run. On questionning one of The Storm players at the whistle about the score he surprisingly replied "got frashed 'bout 10 nil". It's credit to the boys then that they played to the whistle against superior opponents in both experience and physical size. They now know where they need to aim to be and the aggression that still needs to be introduced to both of our teams' games. It was great to see you all having a good crack between yourselves at the after match social and you all certainly deserved it after putting it on the line against the league's best team.
The 8s were shocked by the ferocity of the first half with scenes reminiscent of the opening credits of Saving Private Ryan at times during the first half! 6-1 at half time and I thought it may be an evening of good hidings. The scoreline finished 12-9 aspparently (although I can't swear to this and one of our West Coast brothers may put me right?) Anyway, once the chaps had realised that they were in for a rough ride they too responded positively against the best team we've faced yet by a country mile. I truly believe that if we'd have come out of the blocks for the start in the way we started the second half we'd have had an extremely close game. Tries for Lewis (5), Archie (3) and Ethan's first made the scoreline one to be extremely proud of at full time. A big thank you to Mr McCullough for utilising his thighs to keep our team in the field of play and a big thank you to the official Mr Petcher for letting him! We need to start running straight and to introduce some aggression into our defensive game to put the would be attackers off - just like Millom did to us in the first half. I do not want to have to dig out the novelty crab claws for those who run sideways!
A massive thank you to Oliver's Grandma & Grandad for running a perfect BBQ in the fine weather I had confidently predicted. To Lewis's Grandma & Grandad, Mum and Aunty Helen and to Matthew's Mum for making sure the massive procession of hungry punters were all served and happy. Finally a big thanks to Oliver's Mum, Louise for selling Race Night tickets. The people mentioned (and those not mentioned) ensured the night was a great success and as a club we owe them all a massive thanks. They will be awarded celebrity guest of honour status at the race night and when I make something up to go with the title I'll let you know exactly what it means!
Another massive thanks to Eddie and the ground staff at the club. Despite the weather the pitch was absolutely magnificent and likely to be the best the kids will play on all season. This is why we pay our club memberships and I'm sure that after dodging mole hills and ripping knees off you can all see that it's a small price to pay for such well maintained facilties.
See you on Friday and don't forget your race night ticket money! We have one non-runner so a full card is still expected.
