Post Match Review - 7th March 2010
It was great to kick off the 2010 campaign on such a beautiful morning and with packed touchlines the stage was set for our brave kids to take to the pitch. Again, the volume from the touchlines really does have a positive influence on the players and you all played your parts today – thanks for the support.
Firstly the 8s against a very big and hard running Roose outfit. Impressive debutants Morgan, Steph and Max experienced firsthand why we practice hanging onto the ball retaining possession under some big shots from the Roose defenders. What impressed me and everyone else along both touchlines was the confidence we have developed over the off season to pass the ball to our team mates. Our prioritisation of passing over all the other skills at the youngest end certainly pays dividends as was evident from the Under 10s Harlem Globetrotters. Running the length of the field looks impressive but players learn nothing from this. Our 8s pass and support play was great as we worked for each other and put in a real team performance. Roose could have easily run away with the game but some awesome defence from Harvey Coops kept them at bay for Ethan, Spencer and Macca to make the hard yards. 9-6 was a respectable result for a team with more Under 7s than 8s and the team are now a game wiser and know what to expect next week against Walney. Keep passing and spread out!
If someone could tell me the scorers from both games I’ll start the statistics again. Better still if someone could volunteer to do the game day stats I can do the entrance as per last season for presentation night......................?
The 10s played what can only be described as 12s rugby. The defence was outstanding throughout with every player moving up in unison and snuffing out wave after wave of Roose attack. Some individual text book tackling and pressure from the marker kept opposition yards gained to an absolute minimum (and sometimes a minus). 28 -0 says all that needs to be said for both our defence and our attack. We moved the ball along the line, supported the runners and maintained our width. Dean and I are so proud of each and every player that took to the field today. I’d especially like to mention the three players who volunteered to turn out for Roose. Nicky, Jonah and Callum ensured we could all play an exciting game and they have all now done their stint for the opposition should we need to offer players again. In short, from 1 to 13, absolutely awesome. I hope you enjoyed it because we all certainly did. You have set the bar very high for yourselves now and you must continue to take what we do on a Friday night to the pitch on Sunday.
A big thanks to Peter who despite being really old offered to referee both games and in my opinion did an excellent job and to the usual suspects in the kitchen who turned over a small fortune with £97.56 profit on the day. Last but not least a big thanks to James Pos who tended to the players liquid needs and also marshalled the substitutes for the second half of the 8s game, the Dads who put out the posts and pads, the on-pitch sales team of Charlotte & Georgia and everyone else who make game days such an enjoyable experience for kids and adults alike.
Thank You

ADDED LATER...
If anyone of the U8's is missing a 7/8 track suit top, don't worry as I've got it and will bring it training Friday.
Cannot say it'll be ironed but it will be washed!!!!
Today was my first time with the 8's and have to say how PROUD I am of the ALL.
We train as a team and this morning played as A TEAM.
From Morgan, Steph and Max playing their first games in storm colours, right the way through to the older ones everyone did their bit.
We set them the target of getting 2 tries, so to acheive 6 is amazing
MUMS and DADS be proud of them ALL, I AM they deserve it.
