Post Match Review - 4th May 2009 (Craven Park Finals Day)
I had a feeling that a few accounts would be opened today.
Petch opened his 10s account with a magnificent try against Hindpool/Dalton. Kian finally got one after going close for weeks now against Walney (and then unfortunately had another disallowed) and Sam got on the score sheet against Marsh Hornets in a closely contested game. Well done to all of you.
Jonah opened his tackling account with a brilliant individual try saver in the Hindpool game, I opened my 2009 (Spring/Summer) sending off account with an absolute peach in the Hindpool game and Mike opened his "Mad Dad" account with a hefty deposit!
I fully understand that it's hard to ignore people when they are blatantly winding you up and especially when it's your children involved.
We have the same format and the same opposition next Sunday so please position yourselves accordingly.
Dalton generally make the most of these festivals with bouncy castles etc. and I can only assume that Mike wanted to see some circus acts at Craven Park when he shouted, "Clown"?
8s RESULTS
Vs. Walney. WON 8-4.
A superb display from the little guys in the first game on the big stage. Tries for Jake (2), Kian (1), Lewis (4) and Archie (1) ensured we had the game under control from the start and also allowed us to send out the minis for the last ten minutes of a very exciting game. Spencer was unlucky not to score this time around.
Vs. Marsh Hornets. WON 9-8.
A real nail biter followed as two very evenly matched teams (both leaky) traded tries right up until the final whistle. Tries for Jake (3), Sam (1), Lewis (2) and Archie (3) just pipped a very good opposing team.
10s RESULTS
Vs. Dalton / Barrow Island. NARROWLY LOST BY 2.
Considering the opposition the 10s put in a very solid display. The go forward was as always excellent with no shortage of willing runners across the full width of the pitch. Tries from Austin and William kept the scores close and a difference of 2 was a fair result against a very good side.
Vs. Hindpool / Dalton. WON 3-1.
In between the thuggery there were some brilliant pieces of rugby played by both teams. Harvey, Jacob and Matty all scoring (the latter needing just five more tries to reach his career 100 in three seasons). We stood up well to some "afters" in the tackles and it's a credit to our boys and their parents that there was no retaliation from any of our players. You were the perfect examples of sporting gentlemen today and the result was well deserved. You won the game in a controlled manner within the rules and that's what we're looking for. As for moving off the line at the play the ball - guess what you're doing for an hour and a half on Friday?
