Under 8s Craven Park Participation Festival Results - Beat Millom 6-4, beat the Hindpool/Ulverston All Stars 8-4 and drew with Barrow Island.
The boys put on a very impressive display against vastly more experienced teams today and there were some excellent individual performances on the park. Debutant Louis Mc made some great yards and retained possession of the ball. Perhaps the smallest of steps but the most important as we all know and he will kick on from here to become a valued team member. Archie, Jake and Lewis who are obviously the "old heads" lead by example with some brilliant running and some even better defending. Little Sam pulled off some heroic stops again and the LJ & Marcus partnership is beginning to bare fruit. Kian and William's runs are gradually becoming straighter and faster as the confidence grows. The Medal for Valour must certainly go to Harvey Coops for being decapitated and returning to the field almost instantaneously. This speaks volumes for Harvey's character and determination and I can't commend him highly enough for this. This is exactly why your child will get so much more from Rugby League than they ever would from football. It was probably as bad as it looked from where you were and for the parents that are new to this please be advised that had their been anything malicious about the tackle then I would have taken the appropriate action. I take my responsibilities to provide a duty of care to your kids very seriously and had the guilty party not been crying more than Harvey then he would have walked for the remainder of the game! This is also a very, very rare occurrence. Hindpool away next week shouldn't present us with a problem but we need a strong team performance to ensure we continue to progress. I'll be looking to bring more passing into our game as we become more familiar with each other and this will bring another angle for our spectators to enjoy. Well done everybody!
The Under 10s will compete in a similar festival in the coming weeks so I thought it best to explain the arrangements. Barrow Raiders provide the club with promotional tickets (£5 entry for adults and £10 family tickets and free admission for kids and two coaching staff). Should you not wish to stay and watch the Raiders game then it means an expensive hour to watch your kid play at Craven Park. Attendance at these festivals is not mandatory and is entirely voluntary as is any other game and any issues on admission arrangements etc. when we play at Craven Park should be taken up with the Barrow Raiders. They are a professional organisation and rely on our support to ensure they can continue to field the quality that those who stayed on, witnessed today. We have several season ticket holders at our club which allowed us to give promotional tickets to both the 8s and the 10s. If you do not wish your child to play in the 10s festival due to the paid admission policy then please let me know beforehand. This will also be the case for the Craven Park Finals day for both the 8s and 10s so again, with appearances being voluntary, please let me know of any non-attendance as soon as possible.
