Hawcoat Storm would like to say a big thank you to our latest sponsors - Duddon Tyres and Redhall Nuclear.

Both companies have offered their support and this is very much appreciated. Support from local businesses is essential in the success of the club and i am sure you will all agree that having these companies support us is fantastic news all round.

Redhall Nuclear (or Redhall Group PLC) can be found here - www.redhallgroup.co.uk.

Duddon Tyres are located on Hindpool Road so if you need new tyres why not pay them a visit!

July 18th 2010

One weekend, 4 games, 4 good wins. What a great run in we’re having at both 8s and 10s with organised teams outplaying the opposition in a sporting manner. Players are now putting themselves in the window for Presentation Night awards (Sept 11th at 6:30 until late).

PRESENTATION NIGHT

Tickets will be £5 per adult and £2 per kid with players free. The format will be similar but a little different this year but rest assured the team will all have the razzamatazz and recognition they deserve and your support and attendance make this all the better. Please let me know numbers as soon as you can. Food will be pie & peas and hot dogs and there will be a disco (how else could we hold the dance off?)

I'm hoping to arrange a chat with ten lads and their parents on Friday following training to arrange and see who's about when. Training will continue in preparation to target the things that will be new to them such as scrums, two markers etc. etc. Jason Meadows has pledged to help out with the 12s and his experience around the scrum etc. will be invaluable. Just another call for numbers, if anyone has expressed an interest at school etc. then please let them know that they'll be welcome with open arms (especially if they have the start of a beard)

July 6th 2010

Due to the number of kids staying out/late nights/pulling parents out of gutters etc. following Saturday’s Summer Ball, Askam have kindly agreed to rearrange this Sunday’s game for next Friday. For those 10s parents lucky enough to have kids playing at Holker as well it will be a little rushed but you’ll be at Rakesmoor for 730pm and I’ll arrange to have the showwww.redhallgroup.co.ukers available at our club should any of the fellas want a wash first but we’ll understand if it’s a little too rushed.

See you all for training as normal this week.

June 25th 2010

Unfortunately (or fortunately if you want to plan around a fine weekend) Dalton have cried off at Under 10s on Sunday. The 8s will meet at 10 and kick off at 10:30 as normal. We’ll be doing hot dogs and tea & coffee only due to the reduced numbers.

June 22nd 2010

Just to let everyone know that the downstairs room at the club will be showing the England game tomorrow afternoon for those lucky enough to be able to escape work. There will certainly be more than a few of us there and the kids are welcome if you want to watch the game on 2 big screens.

June 7th 2010

Millom are unable to play the Sunday fixture this weekend and have asked to switch to the Friday evening instead. In order for us to get the game on I’ve said yes but I’m assuming that everyone is all socialled out following the Walney game?

The 8s will kick off at 545 followed by the 10s. This gives us an hour of training beforehand from 5pm and we’ll take this opportunity to do this session and fix some of the things that tripped us up last weekend. We’ll do the hot dogs and tuck shop as per the Sunday for food unless there’s a tidal wave of requests for an alternative.

June 6th 2010

BBQ

Many many thanks to those who helped, those who bought, those who baked cakes and those that helped the bar takings beat the Friday night record held since 1975! We made around £70 profit on the night and I’m sure everyone enjoyed it. Thank you again.

MERCHANDISE ORDERS

I sent out an electronic version of the form but if anyone wants a hard copy please ask. Orders are payable by cheque to HAWCOAT STORM MINI RUGBY LEAGUE please by Fri 18th June.

WORLD CUP

As football fever will grab us for at least the next week and a half (I’ve always been an England pessimist) it’s important that as we will undoubtedly see blatant cheating through faking injury that you explain to the kids that this is unacceptable behaviour and will certainly lead to a mouthful of grass as a minimum. There’s nothing worse as a coach on the pitch than seeing a child on the ground only to find he’s clutching his leg in order to have a rest. This is not part of our game. The other disturbing thing is referee and match official abuse in football. Again I would ask you to please explain that in Rugby we call the referee Sir, we never question a decision and we never ever behave in an unrespectful manner on the field of play. Any player doing any of these will be dismissed, no question.

June 3rd 2010

Please feel free to print off the merchandise sheet here, complete and bring with you tomorrow night. If you can accompany this with a cheque I can then look to place an order when we have sufficient. This is a ONE OFF order for this season so if you want something please get it now. Closing date for orders will be training Friday 18 June.

Tomorrow night is also deadline for Summer Ball tickets. This sells out every year so please don’t hesitate to buy your tickets.

May 31st 2010

Mr. & Mrs. Jessiman (Duddon Tyres) have made a superb offer to sponsor the new 12s kit for the 2010 season so the issues around kits should hopefully all be addressed now. Please try and repay this kind help by visiting them for your tyres in future. Thanks to each and every one of you who have made such kind gestures lately both financial and of assistance, it is really appreciated and helps make us the close knit club that we are.

May 27th 2010

Please could I ask everyone to bring any playing kits they have to training on Friday (tomorrow). I will then allocate the kits to all the 8s who need them. The 10s will then get the new kit that was earmarked for the 12s for the remainder of the season. I will then seek sponsorship / funding for a new 12s kit. This scenario fixes the kit problem until September and will also let us see how many spare kits we have to sell at the agreed £15 to those who expressed an interest. To clarify, we will still provide playing kits, the optional purchase kits are for you to keep. To those who have offered money I am truly overwhelmed by your generosity but with the £15s from kit sales and a couple of sob story letters to local companies we should be OK for the £600ish it will cost for a kit.

Please try and remember to do this and please pass the message on at school etc. so we can ensure everyone gets a kit.........even Bob!

May 26th 2010

Please see our A4 Storm poster here - and put anywhere you see fit! Thanks

May 23rd 2010

I have asked Roose if we can play our weekend games this Friday evening to accommodate the Barrow game on Saturday. I’ll keep you posted.

May 21st 2010

Training will be held at the very top of the club tonight. Our pitch has been fertilised and seeded so we'll be up there for a couple of weeks.

May 20th 2010

Tickets for the Summer Ball (July 10th) are on sale this weekend. Jason has very kindly allowed me to reserve 20 tickets or 2 tables for a fortnight.

This event will sell out so I must ask that if you're wanting to attend, to pay me for your tickets before the Walney game at home on 4th June.

May 19th 2010

Hiya Mark, Polly here.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday - here is the gala timing info as promised

Games are 7 a side, 12 minutes each way with a short half time.

We would like teams to be there for 1030 with the first games to kick off around 1100.

All teams will play at least 3 matches but if you wish to play more you can. This seemed to be popular last year.

If you can just confirm you are coming that would be great, if so we look forward to seeing you all on Sunday plus parking is fairly limited to the more people that can car share the better !! (plus saves you on petrol too !)

Just praying for dry clement weather now please - so if you could bring that with you - that would be fantastic !!

kindest regards

Polly

So we’ll try and arrange to get there for 1015 ish as we’ll all start together. It’s probably wise to car share as Polly mentioned so we can sort this between ourselves on Friday night but I’ll be parking opposite the pub on the road outside the ground

It should be an excellent day and we have an almost full compliment available.

MB (currently 1 spare seat)

Also, Before we know it we'll be back from our hols and the top year of 10s will be moving up to start the 12 season in September. We have the bare bones of a squad but I'd like to think that we could compliment this squad from schools other than Holy Family (as I think we've exhausted that talent pool and have most of them with us). Please have a think about those kids you know who are currently in Year 5 who may like what we do and enjoy a game of RL on a Sunday. They're all welcome to come to training from now until season starts in September and I'll attempt to arrange some 11s games in the interim to get some RL game time.

May 11th 2010

Just a reminder to everyone, there’s no training this Friday . Meet at Hindpool (opposite Travis Perkins) normal time on Sunday.

May 5th 2010

NO TRAINING NEXT FRIDAY BUT HINDPOOL IS STILL ON - AWAY 16TH MAY

MILLOM 7 A SIDE FESTIVAL - 23RD MAY

Walney at home will now be played on Friday 4th June instead of Sunday 6th . Meet as normal for training at 5pm – kick off 530pm followed by 10s. This game will be followed by an optional “big session”.

March 27th 2010

All,

Thanks to those of you who have volunteered to help on the bars, cellar, marshalling, setting up/clearing away of the K2B.

A rota for the bars will appear on the notice boards at the sports club later today.

However, we still require volunteers to help with the setting up on the morning (10am till 12pm) and afternoon (2pm till 5pm) of Friday 7th May, marshalling/cellar/barwork on Saturday 8th May throughout the afternoon and volunteers to help with any tidying up on Sunday 9th May (morning).

Please pass this message on to any member of your section that I haven't mailed this to and if you can help in any way please contact me and let me know.

Andy Woods - General Manager/Hawcoat Park

March 25th 2010

Ulverston have now cancelled at both age groups so you can enjoy a lay in on Sunday and maybe even have an extra sherbet or two on Friday night.

March 23rd 2010

This Friday’s casual pie & pea supper looks likely to turn into a bit of a knees up once again with around 50 adults and 20 kids ordering food. It’s great to think that we can all enjoy this important part of our game and that our parents can mix so easily so a big thanks for your continued support. If you have yet to reply or hadn’t read the match report then tomorrow at 10am is the cut off for orders to Sarah on 07894751330.

Unfortunately Ulverston don’t have an under 8s team this season so there will be no fixture this weekend for our little stars. Walney are playing Barrow Island who also have two teams so they’re all sorted for games. If you can get there I’d like to still see as many as we can get enjoying the bacon buns and tuck shop and packing the touchlines screaming at the 10s to get off the bloody line (I’ll take all the help I can get!) If there are any 8s parents who could give up a half hour to man the kitchen to allow the 10s mums to see the game this week I’d be really happy. I know it’s a big ask but I’m sure they’ll return the favour should the opposite happen. Please let me know as soon as you can and I’ll buy you a scoop on Friday.

March 9th 2010

The first post match review for 2010 is now available in the "Team fixtures & Reviews section"

February 28th 2010

Oh and the Dad’s game is off next week. I assume that those who took part last time have realised that they are too old to do it again!

February 26th 2010

Thanks to all those who now have a bucket of muddy kit outside their back door, the attendance on such a poor night was brilliant. We play in the rain and mud so we train in the rain and mud – it’s not football!

Next Sunday sees our first game of the season at home to Roose. All game days are generally the same. 8s are to meet 30 minutes before kickoff (generally 10am unless otherwise advised) as are the 10s (generally 1030am unless otherwise advised). For those who have volunteered to help erect the posts, corner flags etc. a massive thank you (Mr Foster and Mr Bircher to date) and see you up the club at 930am with your best 2lb hammers and some scrap wood (decking off cuts proved ideal last year). For those that have volunteered to help with the first stint in the kitchen (10s parents while the 8s play) a massive thank you, please let Sarah know as soon as you can so we’re not over run and likewise for those 8s parents who can cover whilst the 10s play a massive thank you and please let Sarah know so she can come down and watch Lew play.

No train / no play takes effect from next Friday for the 10s team. Please also let us know if your child is unavailable as soon as possible. If they have a kit please wear it. If they don’t please come dressed accordingly with them ready to simply swap shirts and get straight on. Shoelaces are a pet hate of all the coaches so please ensure a nice tight double knot in both boots.

Please enjoy the bacon buns, tea & coffee, tuck shop and hot dogs on game day as this provides much appreciated revenue for the club. Please also bring along friends and family to support the teams. They definitely respond to touchline encouragement.

We’re showing some excellent signs at training and I look forward to seeing the teams putting their skills into practice next week. Fixtures, previews, match reports and everything else you could possibly need are on the website. Please use this as a first point of reference or call me/Sarah on the numbers below.

Joe from Ruggaskool attended tonight to catch those parents who missed Maya. Please see www.ruggaskool.co.uk. I can’t recommend this highly enough as an alternative to the more established school holiday offerings.

All we ask is that the kids leave the field with a smile and knowing they did their best (it’s a lot easier to smile after a 10-0 win with ferocious defence and Harlem Globe Trotter passing though). GO STORM!

February 21st 2010

Last call for a trip to Wigan this season. 12 just isn’t feasible and to ensure the kids get the best possible opportunity I need to let Amanda know as soon as possible (last week). See the details on the link here http://www.wiganwarriors.com/news_full.asp?newsid=5499

Dad’s game also not feasible with numbers at the moment. By my reckoning we have

BURROWS, BROWN, PETCHER, MONK, MCCULLOUGH, UREN, MCARTHUR............ any more?

February 13th 2010

Thanks again for the fantastic attendance last night. For those that came to the meeting from outside the section it certainly demonstrated what a close knit bunch we have become. For those that weren’t listening and those that couldn’t attend here’s what happened.......................

Expressions of interest were invited for the following events and roles;

DAD’S GAME following training on 5th March

15 minutes each way on a small pitch for those of you who are past it.

9 A SIDE FESTIVAL at Craven Park at the end of May

SPONSORSHIP SHORT TERM – additional kits or generic purple shorts and socks and training bibs

SPONSORSHIP LONG TERM – replacement playing kits for 8s and 10s

GAME DAY CATERING ROTA – parents for the all important Sunday morning home game rota

GAME DAY POST/PADS – transport to and from tennis huts

SOCIAL CALENDAR – someone to sort a disco and catering for a couple of free weekends in the year (race night etc.)

WIGAN – we’ve managed to be a community partner for another year so a trip is on the cards again

I NEED AN E MAIL RESPONSE FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE? CHEERS

All the kits and tracksuits we have are now allocated and we need to be sure that interchanges are as quick as possible. To allow us to do this I would ask that if you weren’t lucky enough to get one then you have the kids in maroon shorts and socks on game day so we can just switch shirts.

Maya from Ruggaskool gave an insight into Rugby’s “Inside Out” type offering. She’ll be back at the club again on Friday to speak to the Micro squad’s parents so if you need any more information please feel free to see her then, speak to me and I’ll pass it on or contact her directly at enquiries@ruggaskool.co.uk. I can’t recommend what her and Joe do enough so if you’re undecided about those holiday activities and you want to see the catch/carry/pass skills that we value so highly as coaches improve, get them booked in.

Andy Tomkins (andytomkins@btinternet.com)and Darren Waterston from Hawcoat Park Junior Football came up with an open invite to our kids to join the new junior sections. Please see e mail from Andy below. If we have sufficient interest from the Storm ranks we could see teams at every age group.

Jason Meadows (meadows_j@sky.com) offered an open invite for the kids to attend RU training on a Monday evening and I went on about how each code compliments the other (for a change!)

Jonah’s mum has secured us a great deal on embroidered merchandise. This removes our reliance on O’Neill’s stock levels and allows us to source club branded merchandise locally at excellent prices. The hoodies that proved such a success last year are an obvious suggestion but having a hood means they’re not really suitable for training. Round neck sweat shirts are a better option and a maroon one with club logo and child’s name will be somewhere in the region of £12 (ish). Please email back if this would be of interest or you have any other suggestions that may be popular.

We talked about the quality of the website and what a good tool it was for potential sponsors and players alike. Parents were encouraged to use the Gallery to share match day photos.

Thanks again and please respond as soon as you can to all of the above

February 12th 2010

Yet another reminder that we have a pre-season parent’s meeting in the bar tomorrow night following training (get wrapped up). We’ve got representatives from the club, the RU section, the new junior football section and from Ruggaskool coming so it’s not my gob all evening. Your attendance would be greatly appreciated to allow me to go through our game day arrangements and selection procedures etc. and also to hear about the exciting developments and opportunities for the kids. You can also enjoy one of the privileges of membership and celebrate the arrival of half term with a few scoops!

February 8th 2010

Whilst I’m filling your Inbox with rubbish I thought I’d just include a quote I found from last year’s match reports.

“What is missing now is the drive, venom, determination, intensity, physical impact, fearlessness and the channelled aggression that makes the teams we come up against more superior on the field. The boys spend all week at school being told not to push or shout or to use their physical size to overcome others. On the pitch we need to see the exact opposite and I personally feel that we're currently suffering as a direct consequence of having such nice kids at the club. I propose to talk to them at training this week and to try and instil the mindset that it took Petch a bloody nose and Oliver a minor scuffle to achieve (and then to run right through the opposition with little care other than to progress the ball). Job done!

This is where you as parents and carers also come in. From experience I can state that my boy was quite shocked and disturbed at what his Dad was asking him to do in the name of rugby! If you can help us by explaining that we need this approach to match our opposition and that it's acceptable to do so in a controlled manner on the sports field then they will hopefully feel that they have your permission to act a little differently than their little angel normally does!”

I’m certain that this year the Under 10s will experience a very different season as the quality and experience we now boast will make sure of this. The 8s have the same great mix of experience and novice enthusiasm that proved so successful last year. All the signs are good and I know the coaching team are confident of a successful season. If I could ask you to explain the importance of them moving off the defensive line as soon as the acting half back passes the ball this would be a huge help. (limits their passing options, reduces attacker run up and speed, pressures attackers into making mistakes etc.) Simply put, the kids need to watch for the pass and then sprint off the line to where the play the ball occurred. We are weak here and DEFENCE WINS GAMES.

February 7th 2010

All

I’ve got loads of stuff to update you on so please make every effort to attend if you can. The kids are welcome (trainers and clean gear only though please) and we may have some other club reps in attendance to tell us about some well earned discounts for our 100% membership and also other opportunities for the kids to use the facilities throughout the year.

GAME DAY PREPARATIONS

Sunday 7th March see us playing our first home fixtures against Roose Pioneers. For those of you that are new to this (and expect a nice lay in on a Sunday) this is where I start to look for volunteers. A 10:30am kick off for the 8s (meet at 10am with your kits on) followed by an 11am kick off for the 10s (meet at 10:30am in your kits) is the norm for home and away fixtures. The coaching team are busy either warming the teams up and looking after the substitutes or refereeing the games. I therefore need volunteers to help us prepare for the games if possible? Please don’t be shy in coming forward.

Pitch

WATER BOTTLES TO COLLECT FROM TENNIS HUT, FILL, COLLECT AFTER THE GAMES, WASH & REPLACE (or you can dishwasher them at home if you like?)

POSTS TO TRANSPORT FROM TENNIS HUT TO PITCH, ERECT & DISMANTLE THEN RETURN AFTER THE GAMES

POST PADS TO TRANSPORT FROM TENNIS HUT TO PITCH, ERECT & DISMANTLE THEN RETURN AFTER THE GAMES

Catering

WHATEVER GOES ON IN THERE IS A MYSTERY TO ME BUT IT USUALLY RESULTS IN BREWS AND BACON BUNS FOR THE SPECTATORS FOLLOWED BY HOT DOGS FOR THE PLAYERS. THE 10S PARENTS COVER THE KITCHEN WHEN THE 8S ARE PLAYING AND VICE VERSA SO EVERYONE CAN SEE THEIR OWN KIDS IN ACTION. PLEASE SEE SARAH IF YOU CAN HELP.

WIGAN WARRIORS

As part of our continued connection to Wigan Warriors we have been chosen as one of the 12 Community Partner Clubs (from the UK) for 2010. This presents us with lots of opportunities for both a trip to a high profile game and some serious fund raising initiatives. I’ll be looking to discuss this AFTER TRAINING NEXT WEEK IN THE BAR but it means our kids will be mascots/entrance tunnel at a SuperLeague fixture and we will get the proceeds of a bucket collection from an average 18000 attendance should we have sufficient interest. It will be first come / first served so please make every effort to attend when I should have all the details from Amanda. There are still some very high profile games available and we need to make a decision with the season already underway. Wigan v Saints looks good on 18 June.

FIXTURES

It has been decided that since Millom suffered so badly due to Barrow Raiders cup clash with last season’s festival that all fixtures for the weekend of 16 May will be played there. We have Hindpool that weekend so with all Barrow & District clubs being present there should be no issues around numbers. I’m in London for a family birthday so enjoy your trip!

COACHING

As the numbers grow we have been fortunate enough to see our coaching team grow exponentially. Thanks to the Dads who now can call themselves qualified coaches and those that are slowly getting roped in! There are courses being run for the UKCC Level 1 RL qualification at Hawcoat Park on 14 and 21 March. Please let me know if you are interested or speak to one of our newly qualified Dads.

9S FESTIVAL

BURRROWS, MONK, BROWN, MCCULLOUGH, PETCHER, MEADOWS (Team Manager) – we’re still 10 short!

DADS GAME

Before our first game of the season I’d like to take the opportunity to hold another Dad’s game (to refresh your memories a little and to give you all some understanding of what your awesome children do every weekend from March until August). Any takers for a Friday night after the kids (Fri 5th March???) I’ll give you until next Friday night and we can pick teams in the bar.

January 27th 2010

All, As you know we’re very keen to promote both codes of our sport and the benefits each bring to the other. With this in mind can I remind parents that the kids have an open invitation to RU training on a Monday evening at the club from 615pm until 730pm. The club are looking to expand at the younger end and realise we have an abundance of talent in the Storm ranks that could also enjoy success with Hawcoat Park Rugby Union. The section boasts experienced coaches and excellent hardware, please give it a try (no pun intended). You just need to turn up with your boots if you enjoyed the few games we had over the winter or you want some extra sessions.

Mark 0784 1122020

Jason 811856 or meadows_j@sky.com

January 26th 2010

TRAINING

Please remember that Micro training will now revert back to 430 – 500pm to allow us to have the 5-630 slot for the remaining 5 sessions before we kick off the 2010 campaign. Please assume that sessions will take place on the bottom pitch and boots, pads, gum shields, skid lids etc. will be required.

NUMBERS

I will take our issues to the Barrow & District committee but I’m not hopeful of any immediate developments other than suggestions surrounding “farming the kids out” which will not happen. We will best facilitate the teams with the numbers we have. Please accept whatever decisions we make around selections and be assured that the club ethos remains as it was with everyone enjoying the same treatment regardless of skills, experience, family ties etc. If anyone has an issue with this please speak to me in the first instance. It might make for a messy touchline at times but in the absence of an alternative we’ll have an army of rolling subs and a member of the coaching team solely responsible for ensuring everyone enjoys equal game time. If this is the case then we will be looking to purchase some additional shorts and socks (and we’ll just swap shirts) to speed up the change over process.

BARROW RAIDERS OPEN AGE 9 A SIDE COMPETITION MAY 2010

Burrows, Brown, Foster, McCullough – another 11 names required please! Uren, Bircher, Nutter, Gaitskell, Purcell, Petcher, Meadows, Coles to name a few?????

CHARLIE FOSTER

Charlie suffered some ligament damage on Friday night when falling awkwardly on his way to the try line. He has a fortnights wait until a reassessment so I’m sure you’ll all join with me in wishing him a speedy recovery and still hoping to see him on Friday night if he can make it so we can have a go on his crutches in the mud!

MEMBERSHIPS

Thanks to everyone for renewing the club memberships for 2010. We have a 100% sign up and are currently the only section who can boast this. It’s testament to the quality of facilities that we enjoy that this was such an easy task. RFL memberships are also all in so we can play our games in the knowledge that we’ve ticked all the boxes. Thanks again.

MERCHANDISE

We’re subject to minimum orders of 12 units for merchandise requiring embroidery. If you want anything please see the website for details and let me know this Friday. I still have several adult shorts remaining at £5 each (that were ordered on the basis of “Oh I’ll definitely have some of them!”) and adult hooped socks at £5 pair. Please shout up if you want them as I’ll have them in the boot.

SEASON 2010

Please feel free to talk to us or the other parents if this is your first season with us. Any concerns you have will hopefully be put to rest after the first final whistle but if reassurances are needed before this we have a Child Welfare Officer in Mrs Monk (I have contact details if you need them) or you can speak to anyone associated the club about how seriously we take our duty of care to your kids (and our own.)

WIGAN WARRIORS

Due to our long association with Wigan Warriors RL keep an eye out for The Storm at www.wiganwarriors.com.

January 21st 2010

Training for the coming season starts tomorrow and we aim to start with a big hit out for the kids on the bottom field in the form of 8s and 10s games for most of the evening. Please dress them accordingly with pads and gummies etc. and also wrap them up in something warm. We have 6 sessions to go until the start of the season so we’ll be switching back to the

5–630 slot after tomorrow. (5.30-6.30pm this Friday the 22nd)

With the impending start to the season and with a feel for the fantastic numbers we now have can I please ask that you let us know as soon as you know that your child is unavailable. This will allow us to get kits swapped around etc. and also for us to see how many substitutes we have. With player numbers way in excess of what we could ever field I am going to suggest that a no train = no play rule, how does everyone feel about this - please email me direct with your views? It seems the fairest option to me.

Please also bring with you outstanding Hawcoat Park membership forms and payment, RFL signing on forms with a passport photo and a COPY of a proof of age document. Until we have these your child is not eligible to train or play. I’ll be in the bar for an hour or so after the session to collate everything. Once we have all this I will arrange a friendly game or two. The reason these are so high profile is that they allow us to fulfil the requirements of our insurance policy.

January 15th 2010

Just a reminder that tonight is signing on night in the bar from 6pm. On payment of membership fees you will be given your child’s kit and tracksuit for the 2010 season. We’ve had to juggle a bit so if anyone has the 9-10 Number 2 shirt (got the shorts and socks) or the complete 9-10 Number 15 kit could you bring them back please. We’re in the very very fortunate position of having more players than kit.

January 13th 2010

With heavy snow forecast for Friday evening and the RU training being called off both tonight and on Monday it’s looking unlikely that the all weather pitch will be clear enough for us to safely hold our first session of the new year this Friday. Disappointing I know but safety first dictates that we hold our all important preparations back another week.

Despite the lack of training I still intend to get the club memberships and RFL registrations (and then you can have a kit and a track suit for the season) out of the way this week if at all possible. I’ll be in the bar from 6pm on Friday night to sort out our section’s club memberships and I’ve attached the forms to this e mail if you want to fill one out beforehand. A completed form and payment are required for Hawcoat park membership and also for RFL registration for new players and those moving up an age group.

2010 FIXTURES AVAILABLE ON THE FIXTURES PAGE

It’s that exciting time of year again when our fixtures are released. Again, I’ve snazzied them up a bit for your kitchen wall Click here to download it. Arrangements are as per normal where the 8s generally kick off at 1030am for two halves of 15 minutes followed by the 10s for two halves of 20 minutes. Kits will be distributed once the players and family are signed up / signed on and we ask that you report to the venue at least 30 minutes before scheduled kick off with your kid already in their kit. Catering at home games is our main revenue stream through the season and volunteers from the 10s are required to man the kitchen whilst the 8s play and vice versa. This arrangement allows all the parents to see their children play. Help erecting our posts and marking out the pitches are also always appreciated. Game days start at around 9am and finish around 12 – many hands make light work.

Jan 31st will be the anniversary of our first ever games and I’ll be looking to arrange friendlies for this milestone if possible.

If anyone needs any more information about RFL signing on, club memberships, game day arrangements etc. please don’t hesitate to give me a bell on 0784 1122020.

See you all next Friday when preparations really begin! Roll on!

January 4th 2010

Hello all and a very happy and prosperous new year to you all. Before I start harping on about what an exciting season we have ahead of us with an extremely strong 10s and an experienced 8s complimented by an influx from the hugely successful Micro group there are a few items of red tape that must be addressed.

I’m proud to say that, as a section we lead the way in memberships amongst our players and parents. You will note that Junior Memberships are now £8 which is an increase but is still huge value for money for the facilities we enjoy. If you have not had a renewal letter or are new to club membership then we will have a signing on night. Arrangements are that each player will have a membership for the year and that at least one parent/guardian takes out a social membership. I will have blank forms with me at the first session of the new year next Friday (15th). I will stay in the bar following the session to enable us to have a “signing on night” and to capture all our membership commitments. The club and our section enforce a no pay = no play ruling and we may be subject to audit of team sheets. This is applicable to every section at the club. If we can get this out of the way early it leaves time to concentrate on turning your kids into the competitive teams that they will no doubt be on a Sunday morning.

For those that have moved up an age group or are new to Hawcoat Storm we have a requirement to register all players with the RFL. Unregistered players cannot play competitive fixtures, friendlies or festivals so we need to capture all the age changes before Feb. Passport photo and a copy of birth certificate or passport are all that are required.

Now onto the inspirational stuff. We put our foundations down last season and upset some long established teams along the way. The 8s enjoyed a fantastically successful season while the 10s were building for what will certainly be a red hot season this year. I’m really excited about the prospects for our 8s and 10s this season and I know that we will cause some upsets along the way. Please make sure that you voice your support on a Sunday and bring along the family to support our teams.

All,

XMAS PARTY

We’re now looking at numbers of around 170 for the 19th of December (7-11pm) so thanks for everyone’s support here. It promises to be a great night. For those who are bringing guests there is no need for them to provide any food (unless they insist then sausage rolls or cheese on sticks would be most welcome). Please bring outstanding ticket money to training this week. The ever popular booze hamper raffle will be running again so please bring a bottle if you can.

X FACTOR

Spaces are limited so if you want a chance to sing in front of a crowd and win some big money please come forward.

CABARET

We have a limited number of tickets available for the Rugby Union section ADULTS ONLY Cabaret on Sat 12th. Please let Sarah know your requirements. Tickets are £7:50 each.

THINK THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE E MAILS SO HAVE PRINTED OFF THE LATEST UPDATES TO WHICH I HAVE HAD AROUND 3 REPLIES (AND I ASSUME YOU’RE NOT IGNORING ME!) PLEASE COULD YOU LET ME KNOW ABOUT TICKETS FOR THE XMAS FUND RAISER THIS EVENING BY TEXT IF POSSIBLE? I NEED TO CONFIRM/CANCEL THIS WEEKEND. MARK 0784 1122020

TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS

Due to availability, conditions, lighting etc. we are to move to the all weather pitch from this Friday. Micro sessions will run from 5pm until 530pm with the 8s and 10s following at 530pm until 630pm. This move will allow us to continue to train over the wetter months (trainers only please) and also to make the switch back to RL and to work on ball skills, set plays, positional play and defensive patterns in preparation for our first season as an established and experienced RL club. I feel that the kids now have enough experience to approach the remaining union games safely and successfully without concentrating on the code on the hard surface.

COACHING STAFF

We now have one Level 2, one Level 1, three nearly Level 1 and a Level 1 in waiting coaches. This will ensure that as a club we have sufficient numbers to not only carry out safe and structured sessions but also the time to coach the individual where necessary. Significant time and effort is required in reaching these qualifications so a big thanks on behalf of the club to those now working towards Level 1, Mark Petcher, Peter Kent and Martin Uren.

FUNDING

A large amount of our club money was invested in kit and playing essentials for our proposed 2009 12s squad. As such we have expended circa £900 and realised nothing back through game day revenue at this moment due to not having a team. Insurance costs for next season amounting to £300 have also just been paid in addition to coaching course fees so we’re officially nearly skint! We need somewhere in the region of £800 for the two teams next season for replacement and maintenance of hardware and some other essentials such as coloured bibs etc. Any sponsorship would be greatly received. We have the hall booked for Saturday 19 December to allow us to have the Storm Xmas Party and this also presents an opportunity to raise some much needed funds. I’m looking for volunteers and suggestions here if possible?

XMAS BREAK

Finish Friday 18 Dec, resume Friday 15 Jan (all weather). Kits and tracksuits will be reissued in January.

MEMBERSHIPS

Renewals are due Jan 31 at the latest. Minimum requirements are for the player and at least one adult social membership. I’m sure you realise the value for money membership brings.

RFL REGISTRATION

New players and those moving up an age group must be (re)registered with the RFL for insurance purposes. Please see Martin Uren for forms. NO CARD = NO PLAY

X FACTOR

Volunteers from the players are sought for the Xmas Family Night “Storm Factor” competition. Five acts are required to perform for the judges (and studio audience) to compete for the coveted Strom Factor cash pot. Voting will be by way of placing a pound into the box marked with the act(s) of your choice. Once all 5 have performed and all votes have been cast we will have the count. The act with the most money in their box will win the title and also keep the cash deposited by the voters. Thanks to Jedward there will be a strictly no duos ruling in force. We need 5 willing volunteers to come forward with their name and their song of choice so we can arrange for the “band” to play their backing track.

BROLLIES

Due to the poor response to the e mail asking for numbers it’s not viable to place an order for umbrellas so apologies to those who were counting on them as a Christmas present.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

We currently have sufficient adults to cover just half the cost of a disco at £2 a head. Unless I can get a commitment at training this week from a decent amount of people then this too will be cancelled. To enable the kids to have the kit they need we MUST support these events and we MUST raise some money. I try and make them as fun and family orientated as I can but please let me know if there is another format that would appeal more. We have had commitments of over £650 since the season finished with coaching courses and insurance premiums etc. and hopefully this will give an insight into why we need funds. We all strive to give your kids the best possible coaching in the best possible environment and I’m sure you agree that we deliver on this every week. We need to add to and maintain the hardware that we use and this is why we need funds. I have resisted introducing a weekly fee but may have to do this to ensure we have the standard of equipment the players deserve.

RAIDERS

Barrow Raiders have given us a fantastic boost in helping us to raise some funds for the club. A fully signed replica shirt will be the prize once the new squad start pre season training at the end of November. The shirt will feature the signatures of the 2010 squad and coaching staff and will probably be the first of its kind for the new season. The shirt will be presented to the winner at a training session at Craven Park where the winning family can meet the team and the new coach.

HALLOWEEN FAMILY PARTY

To allow us to cater for sufficient numbers and if you haven’t already done so, please call Sarah on 07894 751 330 to ensure your kid gets a hot dog! Many thanks for the offers of help and the sterling ticket sales.

Any monies raised from the party will go directly to the club and will help ensure that we can continue to enjoy the town’s best facilities.

The club is again holding the annual bonfire and fireworks display on Thursday 5th Nov.

LAST CALL FOR COMEDY & CURRY NIGHT TICKETS

We’re fast approaching capacity for Comedy & Curry Night on 14th Nov (131 SOLD) Please let me have your ticket requirements before this weekend.

If anyone can help this Sunday (1st Nov) could you please make yourselves known to Ciaran. I’m assuming that the massive amount of scrap timber currently lying at the top of the path requires sticking on the pile next to the first team pitch.

Thanks

We are launching is an Associate Club scheme where we form a mutually beneficial partnership with a club, establish a work programme to support and incentivise their club, as well as boost their capacity and grow their teams. I have attached the criteria for an associate club and would welcome your thoughts and also invite Hawcoat Storm to become a member.

September 14th 2009

Ben spoke about the Comedy & Curry Night Saturday 14th November 2009 on Saturday and to help us sell our allocation he has agreed to attend our training session this Friday to shift our 30 (3 tables of 10). The night itself is a first for the club and features three comedians as the entertainment so all tastes should be catered for!!!! Accompanying the comedians are an Indian family with their cooking range who freshly prepare and cook a choice of a starter and a main. This is a unique event for the club and for the town and I’d like to think that as a section we can fill our 3 tables as a minimum. We’d welcome works groups as well as family members and friends so please set about plugging tickets for the event and remember your cash on Friday. A great night out and an authentic starter and curry for only £17.50 for members and £20 for non members, per person.

Please also remember your RFU signing on form on Friday. We’ve swollen the Union section’s numbers by about 35 overnight but we can’t play unless we’re registered.

September 13th 2009

A quick thank you for making our first presentation night such a well attended success. It was only what the kids deserved after a hard season. Thanks to your generosity we raised somewhere in the region of £384 and as always, I will spend it on some new fangled training kit!

A special thank you to Carl & Amy for making the trip down from the wild west to attend and to Mr and Mrs Charnley for giving up what would probably have been a quiet evening to experience our wasp’s nest of kids!

See you on Friday with your completed RU registration forms or on Thursday night for Barrow v Halifax play-off semi final, KO 730pm.

September 10th 2009

Jason has arranged for the Under 10s to be coached by Mark Harper this Friday. Mark is an Elite player coach and coaches the England Ladies squad as opposed to those of us who are convinced they’re still young enough to play! The kids will get a lot from this session and it will hopefully help their confidence as they make the transition from League to Union. The first game of the season is nearly upon us (27th) and sessions like this will ensure we get the most from the friendlies we have organised (see fixtures on the website, www.hawcoatstorm.co.uk) The rest of us will take the 8s who play a tag version of Union and try and convince them, after two years of telling them the absolute opposite, not to snap each other in half!

The Fitzgeralds will be popping up around 6pm to start taking kids pics and get the parents to fill out the relevant form. The children have to be registered on with the RFU so this will clear this end up for the pups to play. This is the same as registration for the RL season that is currently looked after by Martin. I would ask that parents make themselves available from 6pm if possible or, alternatively please complete the forms and return to Jason me the following evening at Presentation Night. NO FORM = NO PLAY.

Arrangements are all sorted for Saturday so I’ll send out a personal appeal for everyone to bring an item of alcohol for a booze hamper raffle and come along, relax and revel in your child’s achievements for an evening (oh, and the dance off rematch!) We have sufficient volunteers to decorate the hall etc. so we’ll see you at 7.

September 7th 2009

There have been some developments with the 12s and I thought it fair to let everyone know what had been going on and where we have got to. The consensus amongst the parents and myself was that the kids would like to stay at the club regardless (which was an excellent response). The proposed merger with Marsh Hornets would have been achievable but the children we put forward between Marsh Hornets and ourselves would have only benefitted from several annihilations at the hands of far superior teams. We were unanimous in our decision that this was not in the best interests of your kids or the future of our clubs. After discussions with most of the12s parents and the RU factions at both clubs we have agreed to take the following route,

The kids who are now effectively 12s are to stay with the Storm and continue to train with the 10s who will become their team mates next season. This will allow them to grow in confidence and to hit the ground running whilst complimenting the younger element. All age groups will play RU until January regardless.

The kids who are effectively RL 12s have been invited to train with the RU section (for which I scored on Saturday in case you hadn’t heard!!!) on a Monday evening. Furness RU are also struggling to field a full team at under 12s and we are seriously exploring the idea of fielding a representative Barrow side made up of kids from both clubs. This option ticks all the boxes for development, training, team building, cross coding and essentially keeping the kids at Hawcoat Park for the long term. They will also have the honour of representing Barrow! We then have all the kits, balls and training hardware ready to roll at the end of June.

A big thank you to all the parents who have been involved, the RU section and to Rob Mc and Marsh Hornets. I think we’ve arrived at a solution that will suit most if not all. With this solution however is the shift in emphasis to our younger players. The Micro section that currently boasts a squad of eleven 4 and 5 year olds has become the lifeblood of our club and will act as a feeder to all the age groups. Please promote this in your circles because those cute little 5 year olds are next year’s Under 8 wrecking machines!

Thanks again and see you all on Saturday to celebrate.

Post Wigan and St Judes trip information available here

Presentation Night Saturday September 12th-7pm

To celebrate the kid’s achievements over a fantastic first season we’ll be holding a Presentation Night for both teams. There will be food and a disco (also featuring the dance off rematch) and every child who has played this year will receive an award in recognition for their individual efforts as we have secretly been amassing statistics throughout the year! Those that have commented on the increase in their child’s confidence and assertiveness will also know that it’s about so much more than running around on a field. The awards ceremony reflects this and from experience there’s no better way to reward the kids than to have a room full of cheering family and friends to recognise how far they have come this year. Tickets are £5 each for adults and £2.50 for kids and are available at the Roose home game next Sunday with players attending free of charge. Please have your requirements and monies ready. I am trying to arrange some spectacular guests to award the trophies and if anyone can arrange for sponsorship of the event to allow us to purchase the trophies please let me know.

DAD'S GAME FRIDAY 17th

Due to the shear number of wingers we seem to have amongst our parents it will probably be a case of names drawn from a hat for the teams. Bring your boots and gum shields!

Wigan trip update - see here!

July 2nd 2009

To allow you non rugby lovers a chance to make alternative arrangements there will be no game on 12th due to it being the NRC Final between Barrow and Widnes at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool. We were originally scheduled to play Dalton which was then replaced by the Millom festival. Fixtures will resume as normal on 19th when we play Millom away. We’re sure of a good reception after our last meeting and it will be interesting to see how the 10s get on this time?

2009 PRESENTATION NIGHT CONFIRMED SEPTEMBER 12TH.

Also, Wigan will be at our club to deliver a coaching camp 9.00-1.00pm, on Friday 14th August, cost £15 or £35 including a free shirt. More information at training.

Update on the Wigan Trip available here...

Also can I ask that everyone has their order for merchandise in on Friday (everything but the replica playing kit). I've left it as long as I could and we now need to get the order in to allow time for production by ONeills. Any orders after Friday for the embroidered kit (T Shirts, Hoodies etc.) will go in with the next batch.

June 9th 2009

PLEASE NOTE: The Askam fixture is now to be played on Friday 12th and not Sunday 14th.

Following a consolidation of several chinese trays full of coins and notes we've arrived at the total profit raised from the Race Night.....................................................................£729:30!

When we have support like this from those within the club it's no wonder we're making such a success of things.

Thanks to each and every one of you for your generosity........ the state of the art tackle bags are on the way!!!!

You make all the effort worth it and if I were softer I may have cried.

***PENCIL IT IN YOUR DIARY - PRESENTATION NIGHT 12TH SEPTEMBER (Feat: THE DANCE OFF REMATCH!!!)

June 8th 2009

With the Wigan trip upon us I’m expecting everyone to be getting kitted out for the trip. There have been lots of enquiries about club merchandise of late so here’s your chance. We’re subject to minimum orders for kit so we’ll be placing one order for all the gear to ensure we get the best price. Please reply to this e mail with your requirements for quantity and size.

*Playing kit items will be ordered with the 12s kit so will take a little longer.

June 7th 2009

A massive thank you to everyone who supported the race night and made it such a successful evening. At last count we were sitting at around £420 clear profit which is enough to purchase the tackle shields we aimed for. Thanks go especially to my good lady for mucking in everywhere as usual. To Louise Jessiman who spent a lot of time and effort organising the food, the disco and the little trophies the runners all received. To Louise Postlethwaite for running such a good tombola for the kids and to everyone who took bets, made hats, brought friends and family and everything else that contributed to such a good night.

The dance off was certainly the highlight of the evening and I for one was sure that Petch had clinched it with the backstroke move. However, the moody smooth moves of Will impressed the eager crowd a little more and he now currently holds the newly invented title of Hawcoat Storm Dance Master. I’m sure he’ll welcome all-comers for a presentation night challenge!

Thanks to everyone again. It was fantastic to see that our great game can bring people together in such a short space of time.

Wigan Trip

I've now had confirmation from Wigan that we're all good to go and have booked two coaches as indicated by the early expressions of interest. I now need to finalise numbers to enable me to work out costs for the coaches (the more we have – the cheaper it is). Match tickets and stadium tour are £15 and £10 and represent very good value and I’ll be asking for this up front with your bookings please. Tickets will be issued on a first come / first served basis and having two 53 seaters there are 106 available. Coach costs are payable on the day and this will give us chance to try and fill both. I will have a sheet at training on Friday night to start to collate numbers so if you want tickets please bring your money.

FRIDAY BBQ 15.05.09

AS YOU ALL READ THE WEBSITE RELIGIOUSLY YOU'LL ALREADY KNOW ALL ABOUT THE MILLOM FIXTURE, BUT JUST IN CASE.......................

Friday 15th May versus Millom (8s and 10s will kick off simultaneously at 630pm.)

Pitches will be coned areas side by side with a parents area in the middle (trust me it will work!) We'll play 30 minutes and then proceed to the grassed area behind the club house where we keep our stuff in the tennis shed.

Our lovely band of volunteers (hint hint) will have lit the BBQ just before walking down to watch the games and the charcoal will be on the turn as the coaching staff enjoy their first free drinks of the evening. Following the full time whistle all four teams and supporters can enjoy a little early summer social on what will hopefully be a fine evening.

March 27th 2009

Every member of coaching staff attended the NSPCC Child Welfare and Protection Course on Thursday evening along with our Club Welfare Officer. I'm happy to say that as a result of what we learnt on this course we'll be changing very little. We need to formalise the CWO role a little more and inform you, the parents, of what the CWO does and how you can raise any concerns that you may have.

March 22nd 2009

The spring BBQ is only a matter of weeks away and it just needs some bodies to organise it. Please feel free to get in touch if you fancy it.

March 16th 2009

Thanks to the rapid responses we now have only two posts left! If we can manage to get a group of parents together to cover the fundraising activities that would be excellent.

Big thanks to Mike, Keith, Martin and Sarah for covering the other roles.

Fundraising – VACANT

To head up fundraising initiatives throughout the year such as family social events and BBQs etc.

B&D Representative – VACANT

To represent the club at monthly meetings held at Barrow Island RL and cascade any useful information from these.

March 16th 2009

Please have a look at the roles below and if you feel you could help then give me a shout.

I'm currently trying to do all these and coach the kids (and I need help!) None of the roles require significant time or effort but I'm struggling to keep on top of everything and I'd prefer we stayed squeeky clean.

Treasurer - VACANT

To collect and bank monies taken directly by the club.

(Merchandise sales, fundraising events, training subs and match day catering etc.)

Club Memberships - VACANT

To act as a single point of contact between Hawcoat Park and Hawcoat Storm and to ensure that membership requirements are met.

Fundraising – VACANT

To head up fundraising initiatives throughout the year such as family social events and BBQs etc.

B&D Representative – VACANT

To represent the club at monthly meetings held at Barrow Island RL and cascade any useful information from these.

STATISTICS – VACANT

To collate scores, scorers and appearance statistics.

This enables Presentation Night award selections etc to be made.

March 15th 2009

Could I please ask the parents of those kids in years 2 and 3 to give us a mention to some of their friends who may have a son or daughter that would like to join Hawcoat Storm. They will be given a warm welcome as your child has and we'll turn them into team players with the confidence to challenge themselves not only on the pitch but in their everyday lives as well. There is a recruitment poster available on the website if you wish to use this.

Thanks again to those who gave up their time to help today, post match review is available here. The bacon buns were a roaring success and the kitchen looked like a hive of activity.

March 13th 2009

Can I put out a fresh appeal for volunteers?

The work behind the scenes is not overwhelming but is key to the operation of the club.

Ideally I'd like to see a rota for the catering if this were possible as we now have the 10s playing before the 8s for a while and we need some 8s parents to start us off while this arrangement is in place.

LJ's Dad has kindly offered to be registration man and I'll be handing over the registration packs to him shortly.

We need someone to liaise between Hawcoat Storm and Hawcoat Park regarding club memberships, social events etc.

I see this as a key role and would welcome any enquiries.

The website is more than covered by Kian's Dad and we're more than covered for coaching staff.

As we have the best kitted out team north of Birmingham we also have a need for some fund raising initiatives throughout the year (as I've spent all our money making the kids look good!)

A committee would be great to deal with this and anyone wanting to set this up is more than welcome to speak to me.

I intend to have a parent's meeting at some point in the future but attendance at previous ones has been poor at best.

I will try and give plenty of notice and your attendance would be appreciated.

March 8th 2009

ULVERSTON AT HOME THIS COMING SUNDAY WILL BE PLAYED.

THE 10'S BEFORE THE 8'S ARRANGEMENT WILL STAY SO 10'S REPORT AT 10:15 FOR A 10:30 KICK OFF AND 8'S REPORT AT 10:45 PLEASE.

Early volunteers for posts, hot dogs and clean up would be appreciated.

We have now added a "Become a member" page to the website which can be accessed here. Please encourage as many people as possible to become members as it will assist in future communication between the club, parents, children and supporters. Its a simple process and we dont even want personal details, just your email address and a username and password to join.

Pre-match review available now on the fixtures page for this weekends matches.

March 1st 2009

Please check the team fixtures page for all the updates to fixture lists and kick off times etc. and please ensure that your child is a paid up member of the club prior to our first home game by filling in the application form given out at training or available in the download area and returning it to the bar with 2 quid.

Also, post match review now out on the fixtures page!

February 27th 2009

March Update now available in the download area.

February 26th 2009

PLEASE NOTE: Hawcoat Park Social Club memberships for 2009 are now overdue.

It is important that we have enrolled for one parent and the playing child(ren) as a minimum.

I'm assuming that people haven't had renewal letters here as there is only Lewis as a paid up member for this year and I find that quite surprising.

The form that is available from the download area is sufficient and must be handed in at the bar this week with payment.

The club are enforcing a no pay / no play rule and I'd hate to be hit with this following all the chasing last year to get everyone signed up.

For more information please visit the new "How to Join" section

Also we are going to submit an order for replica kits and club merchandise in the near future.

We need to order items in bulk so if anyone wants anything from the range then now's the time to order it – click here for club merchandise

February 23rd 2009

Please see below arrangements for Sunday 1st March 2009

Under 10s have no game and can enjoy a week off !

Under 8s to meet at Craven Park for 11:30 to play festival games against Barrow Island and Hindpool of 9 minutes each way. Teams will then be presented with certificates by Dave Clark. Following this we're all invited to watch the Barrow game and the kids will then take part in a parade of some description at half time. We have half price adult tickets for the game and the kids are free.

I suggest that if the kids turn up in their tracksuits with playing kit underneath then change out of kit following games into something warm under their trackys it will save us getting changed again for the parade (and make sure the boys are warm enough). It's a long day so please ensure you feed them up beforehand!!!

Any questions please contact us

Post Match Review now available, click here.

A special thanks to our kitchen helpers who generously gave up their time to provide the delicious and nutircious hot dogs and drinks. As a first run through for matchdays we coped very well and made £44 profit into the bargain. The tidying took a little longer than expected so any help here would be greatly appreciated. As a rule, if the 10s parents can cover whilst the 8s play and vice versa we have everything covered and I'd much rather have too many than too few. Please see Mrs B if you can help.

The Storm is definately Brewing - Click here for more

There will be no training this Friday due to personal reasons. Training will resume next Friday at Hawcoat Park as normal. There has been some interest from passing parents since Saturday and I'd like to try and get a vinyl banner made up with our website address on to attach to the fence on game days. This obviously represents an excellent marketing opportunity for someone through sponsorship. Please contact us if you know anyone who could be interested.

January 14th 2009

Hawcoat Storm can today formally announce the addition of three blue chip backers to the already impressive list of private sector supporters.

The Nuclear JV have agreed to fund the purchase of hooded sweatshirts for the teams. These will prove to be an invaluable addition to the kits during the early, colder months of the season.

Balfour Beatty Construction are to be the latest additions to our playing strips with an offer of sponsorship that will see their logo placed on the front of the shirts.

Doosan Babcock Energy have made us a fantastic offer to fund the purchase of team tracksuits for the 8s and 10s. In what is a substantial offer of financial support, Doosan will enable the kids to present a united front both on matchdays and at external events throughout the year.

All of our backers are invited to join us for the inaugural games and kit launch celebrations on Saturday January 31st from 1045am. Please try and make it along and show your support and gratitude. To be able to instil a sense of team is priceless and these private sector investments will be to the benefit of all the children involved.

January 13th 2009

Hawcoat Storm have secured funding from The Nuclear JV at Sellafield which will enable us to buy sweatshirts for all the kids we currently have. This is great for the club and we would like to thank all at The Nuclear JV.

FIXTURES 2009 are now out... more information.

January 12th 2009

We now have the Hawcoat Park membership forms available for download in the Download area.

January 11th 2009

On Saturday 31st January Hawcoat Park will witness its first ever games of competitive rugby league. Hawcoat Storm Under 8s will host Ulverston Under 8s in the inaugural game followed by Hawcoat Storm Under 10s hosting a Roose Pioneers Under 10s side.

The friendlies mark the launch of the new kit and are the fruits of some hard work by willing volunteers. The financial assistance from the local business community and the Hawcoat Park Rugby Union section has meant that the kids of Hawcoat Storm will play their first competitive games of Rugby League in a fantastic new kit.

Activities start at 1045 am with a photo of the teams and their kind sponsors and the welcome of our adopted charity, The Croft Care Trust to the club. It is hoped that our community partnership will result in the more mobile residents making the trip across the road on a Sunday morning to support their adopted team.

Kick off will be at 11am when the 8s take to the pitch to try out their new posts and our newly qualified referees take the whistle for their first time. The 10s game will follow and again, as a club this will be our benchmarking day for the season start in March.

Following the games the bar will be open for refreshments and we hope to see everyone there to enjoy the post match banter. If you're curious about the club or know someone who's playing on the day why not pop down? It promises to be a cracker...
