Summary of Mini League rules...

1) Mini League is a modified version of Rugby League.

2) Played by all children up to Year 4 of Primary School - under the age of 9 at midnight on 31 August. (Players up to and including Year 6 of Primary School play Mod League)

3) Maximum number of players in Mini League is 9; no limit on substitutions, but each player must play at least half a full game.

4) The game is played in 4 quarters - the maximum length of a quarter is 10 minutes. No player should play more than 40 minutes in any one day. The maximum length of a tournament game is 10 minutes.

5) The size of the playing area is 60x40 metres maximum. The game can be played on any grassed area. When using a full size pitch to mark the dimensions (played across its width) especially when setting out two pitches, side by side across each half, care needs to taken to avoid the goal posts and avoid pitches that are too narrow.

6) A size 3 ball, or Mini League ball, to be used.

7) The normal 6 tackle rule applies.

8) A try is scored in the usual way by placing, or touching down, the ball over the opponents try line.

9) Defenders retire 5 metres after each tackle, before the play-the-ball restart (ie no markers)

10) If the acting half-back is tackled in possession of the ball, it results in a penalty - hand over of possession to the opposing team.

11) All infringements result in a hand over to the non-offending team except:

- Ball into touch - opposite team restart 5 metres in from touch.

- Ball out of play in the in-goal area - restart will be 10 metres in field in the centre of field.

12) No field kicking allowed - only conversions (from in front of the posts), and no appointed kicker ie all players must take a turn to kick at goal.

13) The game commences with a play the ball in the centre of the pitch at the beginning of each quarter and after scoring a try.

14) Any rule not covered will be as per international rules of the full game.

NB Mini League posts are 2 metres across the bar, and the bar 2 metres from the ground.
